In light of the joint scientific cooperation between the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology and the Midland Refineries Company, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajmi Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, welcomed the scientific delegation from the Midland Refineries Company at the Ministry of Oil, which included Dr. Ramez Mahdi Jawad and Dr. Hossam Ahmed Abdel Hussein and Dr. Rand Qusay Kazem. This meeting came on the sidelines of attending the second meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Third International Conference on Modern Technologies for the Oil and Gas Industry. It is worth noting that the Department of Chemical Engineering has extensive scientific cooperation with the Midland Refineries Company in all scientific fields that lead to the development of the oil refinery sector to serve our national economy. The meeting was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Malek Mustafa, a representative of Al-Mustaqbal University. This serious and fruitful interaction comes in line with the directives of the University of Technology, which emphasize serving society and the productive and industrial sector. It is noteworthy that this cooperation was organized in accordance with the memorandum of joint scientific cooperation that had previously been signed between the two parties, and work continues according to it to develop scientific cooperation.

The scientific and preparatory committees for the Third International Conference on Modern Technologies for the Oil and Gas Industry held their second periodic meeting in the Department of Chemical Engineering, headed by Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajmi Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department. The meeting was attended by members of the various conference committees, including faculty members in the department, and other members of the parties participating in the conference, from the Midland Refineries Company in the Ministry of Oil, as well as the Al-Mustaqbal University. The number of scientific manuscripts received at the conference was discussed, as well as the scientific, administrative and technical aspects of holding the conference. It is worth noting that this conference, in its third edition, is a distinguished scientific event to present the latest developments in the field of the petroleum industry and oil refineries, which is scheduled to be held for the period from 4-5/3/2024 under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and under the direct supervision of the Presidency of the University of Technology.

 Under the generous patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, and within the cultural and artistic season of the Department of Chemical Engineering, an exhibition of photographs was opened in support of the Palestinian cause, in which an elite group of professors and students of the Department of Chemical Engineering participated with artistic paintings and pictures that expressed true solidarity with our oppressed Arab people and the brutal cruelty to which Azza’s children were subjected. The opening was attended by Prof. Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, on Wednesday, 12/13/2023. The head of the department expressed his deep thanks to all the professors and students for their efforts in making the art exhibition a success and their true solidarity with our proud Palestinian people.

 As part of the University of Technology’s efforts to encourage sports programs for male and female students, Faten Raad, a second-year student in the Chemical Engineering Department, participated in the Youth Sports Festival, which was held at the University of Baghdad/College of Physical Education and Sports, in the presence of a number of prominent sports figures and families of the players, with the participation of 20 teams within the ages of 10. -11 years from various private schools for the period 14-15/12/2023. The student reviewed modern martial arts and self-defense movements. It is worth noting that the festival was held under the sponsorship of the Asif Family Academy for Martial Arts and Self-Defense. The sports festival was attended by Dr. Qusay Jaafar Rashid, representative of the Chemical Engineering Department.

Within the program of the University of Technology and the Department of Chemical Engineering aimed at developing students skills, student Rania Amjad Muhammad/fourth stage, Chemical Engineering and Oil Pollution Branch, and student Zahraa Ghanem Abdullah/fourth stage, Chemical Process Engineering Branch, participated in the National Memory Competition for the talented people, which was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The two students achieved distinguished scientific ranks through their active participation in the competition during the multiple stages of the competition and the scientific tests conducted for the students by specialized scientific arbitration committees. It is worth noting that in the first stage, out of a total of 100 students, three students qualified from the University of Technology: student Rania and student Zahraa from the Department of Chemical Engineering and student Musa Ibrahim from the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering.
