The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology discussed the doctoral thesis tagged:

Covalent-Organic Frameworks (COFs)-based Membrane from Synthesis Characterization and Application in Gas Separation

On Thursday, 3/14/2024, the thesis of student Ali Abdel Hussein Abdel Abbas aimed to study the treatment of high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the fields of the Maysan Oil Company. Polymeric membranes loaded with organic nanomaterials were manufactured to capture CO2 from natural gas. The operational conditions affecting the performance of CO2 gas separation were also studied by installing a laboratory system that simulates industrial applications. The results showed an improvement of 109.12% and 91.42% in the selectivity of N2/CO2 and CO2/CH4, respectively, compared to membranes devoid of nanomaterials. A program was also developed Mathematical analysis (CFD) was used to study the operational and design conditions and compare them with the practical results, where the error rate was 6.89%.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Talib Muhammad Nayef as chairman and Prof. Dr. Khaled Turki Rashed and Prof. Dr. Hamid Hussein Alwan and Prof. Dr. Janan Abdul Karim Abdul Razzaq and Prof. Dr. Salman Hussein Abbas and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thamir Jasim Muhammad and Dr. Tahseen Ali Hussein. In addition to the scientific evaluation of the thesis by Prof. Dr. Kazem Matar Shabib from the University of Technology and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Faiq Hassan from the University of Baghdad. Linguistically, it was conducted by Assist. Professor Dr. Farooq Ahmed Mahdi from the University of Technology, and the thesis was accepted with distinction.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, and within the cultural and scientific program for the second semester, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a scientific lecture entitled (Autism between social stigma and deprivation) on Thursday, 3/14/2024.

The lecture was delivered by teacher Nagham Saadoun Rahima from the College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriya University. During which I presented a detailed presentation on autism spectrum disorder, which is a neurological disorder that affects communication and social interaction skills and is characterized by repetitive stereotypical behavior. There are many causes, including genetic causes and environmental factors that increase the possibility of a child developing autism.

In addition to discussing the most important causes and factors that increase the probability of infection, and the best treatment methods.

At the conclusion of the lecture, the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukkar, presented a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in appreciation and appreciation for his efforts in delivering the lecture.

The Women's Affairs Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized an extensive celebration on the occasion of International Women's Day on Thursday, 3/14/2024.

The celebration included a speech by the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukkar, in which he stressed that celebrating International Women’s Day is an appreciation of the role that women play in their society in all areas of community service, as it is imperative for us to salute them on this occasion because they have been able to go beyond All the obstacles facing the exercise of its true role in giving and building, making this occasion an annual tradition that represents a recognition of the existence of women, their dignity, their rights and their equal participation with men in all fields, and an appreciation for the pioneering women in the new Iraq, who contributed to raising the name of Iraq in all scientific and development forums. The best evidence of this is the academic excellence of women and many female students at the level of universities and industrial institutions. Wishing all female teachers, employees and students safety, security, success and progress in their work and life, and that this occasion be repeated every year and that Iraqi women excel, innovate and shine to contribute to the building and reconstruction of Iraq, the family and society.

At the conclusion of the celebration, many female teachers, employees and students from the department were honored who appreciated this generous gesture by the department in supporting working women and encouraging them to contribute to construction and reconstruction in the service of our beloved Iraq.

In the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding conducting joint examinations between private colleges that have scientific twinning with colleges in public universities. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology held a coordination workshop with representatives of the universities and private colleges affiliated with the department, headed by Professor Dr. Talib Muhammad Nayef, Assistant Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, and in the presence of Professor Dr. Muhammad Fadel Abd, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Heritage University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Dhari. Al-Bayati, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries from Future University, Assistant Professor Dr. Khaled Abd Ali from Al-Farabi College, and Head of the Chemical Engineering and Oil Refining Branch in the department, Professor Dr. Zaydoun Mohsen Shakur. Professors of various specializations from all entities whose lessons are included in the joint exam also attended.

The meeting included discussing joint coordination mechanisms between the two sides in order to mature and activate the scientific aspects and prepare for joint examinations that guarantee sobriety in accordance with the drawn up academic and scientific plans. In addition to developing and forming joint committees for the purpose of setting questions, monitoring, correcting and supervising the joint examination.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, and coinciding with the National Afforestation Day, the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized a scientific lecture entitled Sustainability and Sustainable Development on Tuesday, 12/3/2024. The lecture was given by Prof. Dr. Salman Hussein Abbas.

The lecture included a detailed presentation on the concept of sustainability, which aims to use resources wisely to preserve them for future generations, as it is a comprehensive concept that takes into account the impact of consumer habits, economic activity, and lifestyle on the environment and its resources. The nature of the concept of sustainable development as it depends on economic growth to meet human needs and protect the environment for future generation aims to ensure the existence of balanced and environmentally sustainable development as it is a process that combines economic, social and environmental objectives. In addition to addressing the goals of the United Nations for the period extending from  2020 to 2030 on the topic of sustainability and the nature of the relationship between sustainable development and the environment. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajmi Sukkar, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology, awarded a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in appreciation of his efforts in delivering the lecture.
