Scientific visit to the students of the fourth stage in the branch of chemical engineering and oil refining to the Midland Refineries Company / Daura refinery Featured

Based on the directives of the Presidency of Chemical Engineering in the activation of scientific visits to students in the Department during the current academic year 2017/2018, and under administrative order No. 2288 Hm on 15/11/2017 and approval of the Midland Refineries Company / Daura refinery, the summer training committee organized a scientific visit to the students of the fourth stage of the branch of chemical engineering and oil refining on Tuesday 21/11/2017 to the headquarters of Midland Refineries Company / Daura refinery under the supervision of a number of the faculty members are: Assist. Prof. Dr. Khaled Hamed, Lect. Dr. Khaled Turki and Senior Chemist Wesam Sami. One of the most important objectives of the scientific visit was to link theoretical study with practical application and to clarify some practical applications of chemical engineering in the field of petroleum industries. On the sidelines of the visit, the Director of Training and Manpower Development Mr. Saad Ahmed Abdul Khaliq, welcomed the faculty members and students attending inside the Central Control Hall. The delegation, together with a staff of the company, went to the system of control of the czechoslovakia unit as well as the definition of the outputs of the scientific Department, where a group of engineers specialized in the refinery and the academic staffs from our department have explained the stages of refining and answer all questions of visiting students. In the modern oil refining units in the refinery, all measuring devices and control equipment were identified and operated through a field tour, which began from a group of pipes and valves for the receipt of crude oil and measuring devices and control of distillation towers and separation processes with distillation of petroleum products to the end of the distribution of products. In addition, the accompanying environmental problems, especially the problems of corrosion in the pipes and reservoirs, as well as explanation and explanation of all the needs of the students about the operation of systems of the refining towers and measuring devices and then move to the central control room of the distillation towers containing the systems and control devices. This scientific visit has achieved great practical benefits for the students as the modern oil refining units includes the modern measurement and control devices using PLC systems, SCADA system and advanced surveillance cameras and monitoring the production processes that operate remotely by monitoring screens. The general objective of the applied scientific visit is to keep abreast of the practical developments and to support the movement of scientific progress in the field of chemical engineering to prepare engineering cadres capable of dealing with scientific and industrial developments, especially modern oil industries and how to deal with the equipment of measuring devices, control, design, improve the quality of the product, increase production, reduce the cost, optimal choice of devices used in the design of systems and also support the oil industry as its the Iraqi economic artery in order to serve our country and society. At the end of the visit, all the guests expressed their pleasure and joy in the positive results of the scientific activity carried out by the summer training committee. They also thanked the head of the department for giving them an opportunity to view the operational units directly and thank the Midland Refineries Company for providing suitable conditions for the visit.
