Within the scientific and cultural activities of the first semester for the Department of Chemical Engineering the third stage student Abeer Jassim Hammadi was given a lecture entitled: Study of adsorption of hexagonal chromium ion from industrial waste water using a column filled with Acacia plant. The presentation was provided inside the Al-Khwarizmi Hall on Thursday 7-12-2017 in the presence of the head of chemical engineering department; Assist Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar; scientific deputy of the head of department, and Lect. Dr. Wallaa Abdel Hady Al-Najjar; administration deputy of the head of department, as well as the heads of the branches with a number of staff from the department in addition to the under- and post-graduate students. The student explained that this study was carried out using a cheap and available adsorption plant is an acacia to remove hexagonal chromium ion from industrial waste water. We found that the material used was of acceptable efficiency when used for continuous adsorption in columns with fixed fillings. In the study, a comparison was made of the adsorption of the plant with different granules, where the experiments were carried out in a column (6 cm) and a high fill (40 cm) and the flow rate of the liquid through the adsorption medium was proved at 0.5 l / min. The hexagonal chromium ion decreases while adsorption capacity (removal ratio) increases with decreasing chromium ion concentration in inlet primary solution.

Director of the Research Unit of Membrane Technology with his research team publishing research in a sober international journal
|
30/10/2017 |
The director of Membrane Technology Research Unit Prof. Dr. Qusay Fadhel Abdel Hamid and his co-workers were published a paper in the journal of Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification with impact factor of 2.234 for year 2017. The title of the research was "Performance of vacuum poly (propylene) membrane distillation (VMD) for saline water desalination". In this study, the research team designed a vacuum distillation system for membrane using a polypropylene membrane to desalinate high saline water. The operating conditions were studied and optimum conditions were determined for temperature, flow rate, salt water concentration. In addition to specifying the variable on the performance of the process, which is the vacuum pressure. The results showed the highest separation performance compared to a large number of global research in the same field. These membranes can be used to desalinate water associated with oil.
